Recent advancements in pharmacology have led to exciting developments in precision medicine and drug repurposing. Precision medicine involves tailoring medical treatment to an individual's genetic makeup and other unique characteristics. This approach is made possible by advances in genomics, which have made it possible to analyze an individual's DNA quickly and affordably. By analyzing a patient's genetic profile, doctors can determine which drugs are most likely to be effective and which may cause adverse side effects. One example of precision medicine in action is the use of targeted therapies for cancer treatment. Rather than using chemotherapy to kill cancer cells indiscriminately, targeted therapies focus on specific molecules that are involved in cancer growth and survival.
