A large type of tumor known as low-grade glioma can occur at different stages of life. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment and has historically been associated with an overall favourable prognosis. New classification systems, a deeper understanding of the biological activity of various neoplasms and the detection of previously unidentified entities have all been made possible by the improved molecular characterization of specific lesions. In the coming years, new prospective genetic and molecular data will help define better treatment paradigms and further transform the classification of central nervous system malignancies.
